BCA is a member of the Spenard Complete Streets Coalition, a group working to make one of our city’s favorite neighborhoods safer for walkers, the disabled and bicyclists. We will be rallying at a public meeting from 5:30 pm to 7 pm, Monday, July 12 at the Mayor’s 8th Floor Conference Room at City Hall.

Spenard Road is one of the most dangerous places in Anchorage to ride a bicycle or walk. The Bike Plan calls for bike lanes on Spenard, but we must follow up with city officials to make sure it happens. Check out the story in a new column here.

Please come to Monday’s meeting and ask Spenard-area business owners to join our Coalition to push for safer streets which are good for business and for the community.

    Just rec’d this email:

    Good afternoon,

After further consideration, in compliance with the recently approved Municipal Bicycle Plan and in accordance with AASHTO’s design standards, the appropriate bicycle signage and striping will be added to the 6-foot shoulder/bicycle lanes along West Dowling Road from the Old Seward Highway to C Street.

In addition to the bicycle lanes, there will be a multi-use pathway on the north side and a sidewalk on the south side of the roadway for non-motorized use.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Please feel free to move my initial comment – I only put it here because I didn’t know where else to put it.

P.S. I Luv Spenard!! The first place I lived when I moved up.

Hmmm, this site is registered to an address at 441 West Fifth Ave, Suite 202, Anchorage, Alaska. Suite 202 seems to be occupied by Agnew:Beck a commercial concern that contracts with the State of Alaska. WOW – this might make a good news story. Have a nice day.
